Chapter One

“It’s perfectly natural. I’ve read studies that say a lot of women don’t have orgasms.”
Isaac leaned to the right ever so slightly, determined not to miss a single word. As it was, his cock was as stiff as a board, straining against slacks that would otherwise be loose around the crotch. Thankfully his lab coat covered his groin completely.
“Look, I’m not saying I’ve never had an orgasm,” the woman went on. “I just usually don’t have them with another person in the room.” That comment caused a titter of laughter from the women seated next to him. Isaac found his lips curled up in a little smirk despite his best efforts to attempt to not be listening. Very, very interesting.
“Given how hard it is to get in the right frame of mind to have a quick one even alone, I tend not to bother. I think I may just be one of those people who wasn’t built to be sexual.”
That last part almost made Isaac fall off his chair. If ever there was a sexual woman — not in the way she acted or dressed, but rather in raw sensuality — it was Dr. Mira Brown. She was low key, never really the in-your-face kind of woman. Since Isaac was a sensualist down to his soul, he knew the signs of a fellow traveler.
Mira was a colleague; they worked in close quarters in the same lab over many long hours. Mira was a natural-born seductress. Everything about her was designed to seduce; the way she moved, the sound of her contralto voice — even her eyes seem to caress a man without being overtly forward. The conversation he’d just stumbled upon shocked him.
Listening in on coworkers’ private conversations in the cafeteria was generally not the way he spent his lunch hour. He would’ve ignored the group of women at the table next to him if Mira hadn’t been sitting right there in the middle, all eyes trained on her, ears perked and listening intently. For some reason he always seemed to be hyper-aware whenever he and Mira were in the same room.
“Girl, did you ever consider that maybe you just haven’t met a man who knew what the hell he was doing?” The other woman was also a colleague, but for the life of him, Isaac couldn’t remember her name. At her words, the other women giggled, including Mira.
“Believe me, the thought has crossed my mind,” she confessed. “Not that it matters. I’m happy. I love my work. I’m honestly not certain I have time in my life for a relationship.” She shrugged carelessly, but Isaac could see the glimmer of longing in her eyes. “I’m pretty sure the kind of great sex required for all those multiple orgasms you guys are always talking about take more than a one-night stand.”
“True.” A pretty blonde woman leaned her chin on her hand as she propped her elbow on the table. “The better your partner knows you, the easier it is to please you.” She sat back and crossed her arms over her chest. “Call me silly, but if you want orgasms, you’re going to have to make time for a man in your life. Those occasional one-night stands you’re so fond of aren’t going to cut it.”
Mira wrinkled her nose. “I know you’re right, but relationships can be so…” She seemed to struggle for the right word. “… messy. I don’t have time for it. Not if I want to work my way up from a research assistant to having my own department.”
A plump, dark-haired woman with the darkest skin Isaac had ever seen leaned as far over the table as her ample bosom would allow. “It’s called a pocket rocket. Invest in one.” The entire table erupted in peals of laughter. Isaac couldn’t help but smile. Especially when the beginnings of an idea began to form.
Pocket rocket, indeed. He’d give her a pocket rocket, all right. This kind didn’t even need batteries. All kinds of intriguing methods to help out with her little problem danced through his imagination. She wouldn’t know what hit her — or would she?
As far as he could tell, Mira hadn’t noticed him sitting there right beside them. Without hubris Isaac knew damn well she felt the attraction that had crackled between them since she had been transferred to his lab. He’d noticed the sidelong glances, the occasional wetting of the lips. Sometimes even the hardening of her nipples was obvious whenever her lab coat swung open enough to see her blouse underneath. In fact, Mira had always seemed just as aware of him as he was of her.
So maybe she had known he was sitting next to her table this entire time. The thought led to one possible explanation — she’d wanted him to hear every word. As much as he wanted, almost needed to believe that, he had to be sure. But how? Oh, he was definitely going to take her up on her little dare, whether it had been intentional or not. He would just have to be very, very careful.
Carefully rising from the table, Isaac made his way back to the lab, trying not to be seen, but not really concerned if he was. The more he thought about it, the more he was convinced she had known damn well he was at that table. There had never been a time when he had walked into the room and Mira hadn’t noticed he was there, and vice versa. They had a kind of connection that way.
Oh, yes, he was absolutely going to accept the dare Mira had thrown down. It was hard not to rub his hands together as the inkling of his original plan started to take full shape. Rarely had an orgasm with another person in the room, eh? Oh, this was going to be so much fun — for both of them.
* * *
Mira watched Isaac out of the corner of her eye as he left. There was no way he could have missed the exchange between her and her girlfriends. She knew he’d been there, knew they weren’t exactly quiet — never were — and still she’d yammered on.
Thank goodness no one knew of her secret obsession with Dr. Isaac Taylor. Perhaps she should have stopped the conversation when he’d sat down, but she just couldn’t help herself. He might be a man engrossed in his work, but Mira was willing to bet Dr. Taylor was still a man. What red-blooded man would resist the challenge she’d just thrown down?
Then he’d left. She tried to suppress the little sigh as he walked away. Maybe she’d gone just a bit too far, but, damn it, she really wanted that man! He was a hunk of sensual magic in a lab coat just waiting for her to unwrap him. Being his research assistant made things difficult, but not impossible. All she wanted was a fling. One night of passion with impossibly hot Isaac Taylor. Was that so much to ask? Call her desperate, but it had seemed like a good idea at the time.
Mira finished her meal and waved at her friends as they all went to their respective departments. She’d just made a colossal ass of herself. Working with Isaac this afternoon was going to be uncomfortable at best. She dragged her feet, taking her time getting back to the lab. She knew she was going to be late, but she couldn’t make herself hurry. The closer she got, the harder it was to continue.
“Oh, for heaven’s sake!” Mira stood a little straighter, chin high, determined to just face the consequences. She’d let her raging hormones get the better of her. Hiding from Isaac wasn’t going to make anything better. Might as well go and get it over with.
She stomped into the lab in a huff, ducking her head as she made her way to her station. It took her a moment to realize the place was empty. None of her coworkers was there. Except Isaac.
“I was beginning to think you weren’t coming back.” His deep baritone voice slid over her like silken honey. Just that sound sent heat pulsing through her body. It had since the day she’d met him. Seeing him now, leaning against the lab table, arms crossed, she just about melted on the spot.
Mira just looked at him, a little ashamed of herself. What could she say? “Look, Dr. Taylor –”
“Isaac,” he interrupted, looking at her with green eyes so intense, they seemed to glow.
She took a breath. “I’m sorry. I knew you were sitting there and I kept on talking. I’m sure our conversation was way more than you wanted to know, but I just kept moving my big mouth.”
He simply raised an eyebrow. It didn’t lessen the harsh angles and planes of his face one bit, but he looked almost amused. “On the contrary. You gave me information that may prove very useful indeed.” With slow, languid movements, Isaac straightened. He approached her as if he were on the hunt and she was his favorite prey. Stopping just in front of her, Isaac simply stared at her with that piercing gaze of his. It was hard not to fidget. He looked at her as if sizing her up, looking for any weakness he could exploit to get what he wanted from her.
Had he not been her boss, Mira would have done her level best to seduce him months ago. As it was, she had always considered him off limits no matter how much she ached for him. There were no rules against it, but it was one of her personal codes she’d been hesitant to break. Looking at him now, she wondered how she’d ever kept her hands off him.
Isaac was a big man. Muscular without being overly bulky, he still stood a half-foot taller than her. She was by no means a petite woman, but he made her feel small. The closer he got to her, the more his wide shoulders seemed to dominate the spacious laboratory until all she could see or think about was that broad chest, that narrow waist, and those powerful thighs. Joining the same gym he frequented had not been the best idea she’d ever had. Especially now. She’d seen him in shorts and shirtless as he worked out. Visions of that tight, hard body all pumped and sweaty swam in her head, turning her mind to mush.
As he looked down at her, one unruly lock of light chestnut hair fell over his forehead and into his eyes. Mira’s fingers itched to brush it back, but she didn’t dare. Not with him inspecting her so closely. She should have been offended, but she was only exhilarated. She knew she was a good-looking woman. She worked hard at keeping her appearance in public as perfect as she could. Her hair was always done, her makeup tasteful, and she dressed as much for style as functionality. Not to mention she actually used that gym membership, working out as hard as anyone there to keep her body in good shape. She wasn’t a slender fairy. She was curvy, firm in all the right places.
Meeting his gaze with one of her own just as direct, she cocked her hip and put her hand there. “Oh, really? And what useful bit of information did I impart?”
“That you’ve rarely had an orgasm induced by someone other than yourself.” He didn’t hesitate or look in the least uncomfortable. Mira wished she could say the same for herself. She thought she’d been prepared, but when he stated it so boldly, she couldn’t help the slight flush she knew crept up her neck. Thank goodness for her dark skin; otherwise she knew she’d be completely humiliated.
“Yeah. So?” She tried for a haughty tone, but wasn’t sure she quite pulled it off.
“Sooo.” He drew the word out in a sexy little drawl. “I’ve been working on some techniques for women with your particular problem. If successful, I’ll compile the information into a series of books with various… equipment… and market it as a kind of sexual therapy for women with trouble achieving orgasm with their partner. Since my contract with this company forbids any outside research, my choice of partners has to be careful. This isn’t something I want getting back to the corporation. It could mean my job as well as financial penalties. I think you would be perfect for what I have in mind.”
She blinked. She’d been smart enough to figure all that out on her own, but to have him acknowledge he was putting his career in her hands was a complete shock. He had effectively given her as much control as he obviously wanted her to give him. If he laughed at her or embarrassed her in any way, all she had to do was take any data they’d collected to his bosses, and he would have some serious explaining to do. That more than anything else gave her courage.
“What did you have in mind?”
